Double Fizz by Liz West
Double Fizz by Liz West at 1 St Michaels, Manchester – A Burst of Colourful Community“Putting people in a space with colour and light – my art was always going to be immersive,” says Liz West, whose recent Double Fizz art installation has brought upbeat energy to the new development at 1 St Michaels, Manchester – officially opening the 5th of November 2025.What could have been a plain, transitional corridor became a bold creative statement -thanks to Liz’s creative vision and the commissioning of Ruth Davies. Double Fizz continues Liz’s ongoing body of work exploring how colour shapes emotion. Inspired by her earlier project, The Tide, at Greenwich Peninsula, she worked closely with formalighting to carefully select architectural lighting solutions that enabled her to scale her ideas into a 30-metre piece that feels playful, uplifting, and people-centred.On the 28th of October, the installation set the scene for the Women in Lighting “Double Fizz” event, sponsored by formalighting. Guests gathered for lively conversation, including a Q&A with Liz West, hosted by Karen Francis of Hoare Lea, celebrating the importance of visible role models in light, art, and engineering.Delicious Japanese-Peruvian fusion food and drinks were enjoyed at Tokyo & Tumi in Chotto Matte, adding a fun social tone to the evening where we were able to reconnect with our Women in Lighting and industry colleagues.Double Fizz is ultimately about people - encouraging them to slow down, look around, and enjoy how colour can brighten both architecture and mood.Photography by Harley Bainbridge

WIL Italy ANNUAL MEETING 2025
This year, the Italian Chapter's annual meeting took place in an exceptional location, surrounded by the wonderful Dan Flavin installation inside the church of Santa Maria Annunciata in Chiesa Rossa. The WIL Italy ambassador Giorgia Brusemini, along with Lilliana Iadeluca for the WIL ENTERTAINMENT section, welcomed around thirty lighting designers from different regions of Italy. It was an opportunity to celebrate together the fruits that each year come from sharing a common goal: genderparity, starting with our sector, moving through concrete actions, and looking forward. In particular, we focused on some guidelines to understand what it means to concretely support Women in Lighting, such as joining the 50/50 program in creating50/50 panels and juries, and actively participating in and supporting initiatives and events related to gender, inclusivity, and diversity to raise awareness. Thanks to Martina Frattura, who has always supported our ambassador here in Italy, and to formalighting, who supports our events.
