Introduce yourself (name, company, position, country) and tell us how you got into lighting design (including education/qualifications).
My name is Sevval. I am working as a lighting design engineer at Fagerhult MENA and I live in Dubai.
I graduated in 2018 from Balikesir University. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrics and Electronics Engineering. After I finished my degree in engineering in 2018 , I have started to work as a project engineer at Arlight Aydinlatma A.S which is part of FAGERHULT GROUP. I realized that I was interested in lighting. After 1 year, Arlight gave me an opportunity to start working with Fagerhult MENA in Dubai. I have been working at Fagerhult Mena since October 2019.
I am trying to upgrade knowledge about lighting design, architecture, IoT.
Tell us about your work – is there a specific type of project you like to work on or an area you specialise in and why?
I had experience of working with varies type of project such as offices, industrial, exterior, tunnel lighting , healthcare, education therefore I am not an expert in a particular field. But I really enjoy work on kind of unique projects which is mostly façade lighting.
What project are you most proud of and why?
One of the most challenging projects has been the Tunnel Lighting in Saudi Arabia. Tunnel lighting is a totally different field. You should consider lots of parameters when you prepare the design therefore I have learn many new things.
What is the biggest challenge that you have overcome in your career?
Being unique and aesthetic. I am based on engineering. I don’t have education in order to be a designer therefore sometimes I am struggling kind of 3D things.
How does light inspire you?
I believe that the light is very affective on the human psychology. We can make a differences using with lighting.
