Your Interview CHARLENE RADOVIC

Introduce yourself (name, company, position, country) and tell us how you got into lighting design (including education/qualifications).

My name is Charlène Radovic, originally from Serbia but born in Paris, where I live. My journey into the world of lighting design was guided by a very special source of light, my brother-in-law.

In the gentle ballet of light and shadow, let me tell you an enchanting story. My brother-in-law, a craftsman of light, has danced with the glow of the stars for many years. With an unquenchable passion, he forged his own path, creating Fosfens.

Fosfens, this luminous company, was born from the inspiration of my brother-in-law and founded by a dazzling Great Woman, my sister. Together, they gave birth to exceptional luminaires, illuminating the world of lighting.

This luminaire, a masterpiece of innovation, holds the power to transform a simple corner into a constellation of brilliance, embracing a small space or illuminating an entire room. This magical radiance has transcended the boundaries of the possible.

By their side, I learned to love light, to understand its subtle language. As a photographer, I perceive every moment as a blank canvas that light, with its nuances and reflections, transforms into a living work of art. It adds a soul to every captured moment, a heartbeat to every photograph. This is how my passion for light and photography flourished.

Tell us about your work – is there a specific type of project you like to work on or an area you specialise in and why?

In the world of photography, every captured moment is a story that comes to life through the art of playing with shadows and bursts of light. Light, this faithful companion of my lens, is my magic. It sculpts every detail, creates enchanting atmospheres, and adds a mystical dimension to each frozen image.

My love for photography knows no boundaries, no specific specialization. Each subject, each scene, is a blank canvas on which I paint with light. It is this diversity that makes photography my inexhaustible passion, an eternal dance with light to capture the essence of the moment.

I stand at the intersection of art and light because light is the brush that brings my vision to life. I have no specialization because photography, as a whole, is my passion. Each subject, each landscape, each face is a canvas to illuminate with my own light, revealing the essence of the moment, and that is where my greatest joy resides.

What project are you most proud of and why?

As a photographer, one of the achievements I am most proud of is my collaboration with the prestigious company Fosfens. This opportunity was a true turning point in my career, allowing me to explore new horizons and push the boundaries of my understanding of light.

Fosfens afforded me the incredible opportunity to capture the magic of light through my lens. Every project I undertook for them was a captivating adventure, where I had to merge my love for photography with their expertise in creating exceptional lighting fixtures.

I gained a deeper understanding of light, its nuances, and its transformative power. Each photo session was a lesson in how light interacts with space, materials, and forms. I learned to sculpt light to create plays of shadows and reflections that showcased the beauty of Fosfens' luminaires.

This partnership not only allowed me to grow as a photographer but also inspired me to explore new artistic perspectives. The magic of light, combined with the excellence of Fosfens, compelled me to push the boundaries of my creativity with each moment.

Thus, among all the achievements in my career, working alongside Fosfens as a photographer remains an accomplishment I am profoundly proud of. It serves as a constant reminder of the power of light to create, inspire, and transcend the boundaries of visual art while enabling me to master this essential element of my profession with unparalleled expertise.

What is the biggest challenge that you have overcome in your career?

The greatest challenge I have faced in my career as a photographer was merging the magic of light with the art of photography to breathe life into images that tell stories and evoke emotions. Capturing the essence of light in every moment, in varied and sometimes complex environments, has been a demanding and rewarding adventure. However, it is in these challenges that I have found an infinite source of inspiration for my work, creating images that celebrate the beauty of light in all its aspects.

This reminded me that in photography, as in life, adaptability and perseverance are essential to overcome challenges and create beauty.

How does light inspire you?

Light is my silent muse, a constant source of inspiration in my journey as a photographer. It dances with shapes, colors, and textures, creating games of shadows and reflections that tell visual stories. Light inspires me with its ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, to reveal hidden details, and to evoke emotions. It awakens my creativity by showing me how every moment can become a work of art, and every subject a story.

Whether it is soft and diffused, radiant and golden, or dramatic and contrasting, light invites me to explore the infinite visual palette of our world. It is a constant reminder that beauty can be found everywhere, just waiting to be seen through the lens of my camera, to capture and share with the world.

What is your message for other Women In Lighting?

My message to Women In Lighting is simple yet powerful: never let the fear of darkness prevent you from shining.
