Introduce yourself (name, company, position, country) and tell us how you got into lighting design (including education/qualifications).

I’m Francis, a Brazilian architect who loves lighting, cats, and yoga. I’ve been living in Montreal for three years.

Tell us about your work – is there a specific type of project you like to work on or an area you specialise in and why?

I graduated in architecture and have been specializing in interior and lighting design for more than 15 years. I now work at LightFactor, where I discovered the beauty of working exclusively with lighting design for exhibitions and cultural architecture.

What project are you most proud of and why?

There are many. Every time I have fun, work with great people, and create something that positively impacts lives, that’s my best project!

What is the biggest challenge that you have overcome in your career?

So far, leaving my entire life and career behind and moving to Canada. It has been an amazing adventure.

How does light inspire you?

My eye for lighting was developed when I was a kid, thanks to my parents, who always showed me how a well-thought-out light could change an ambiance. I grew up aware of its impact on every moment of life. For me, light is the link between what exists and what we are able to perceive. Working with lighting in a cultural environment allows us to shape the way people will perceive the world around them.

What is your message for other Women In Lighting?
