Your Interview Bárbara Weinmann

Bárbara Weinmann
Artist, Educator, Technician
Argentina
Introduce yourself (name, company, position, country) and tell us how you got into lighting design (including education/qualifications).
My name is Barbara Weinmann. I'm a multimedia artist and educator based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, specializing in projection mapping and visuals for live performances. I love bringing together animation, technology, and storytelling to create immersive experiences that connect with audiences.
Tell us about your work – is there a specific type of project you like to work on or an area you specialise in and why?
For the past nine years, I've been part of the technical team at the Buenos Aires Planetarium, where I operate live video for fulldome shows and collaborate with artists, technicians, and scientists to develop immersive audiovisual experiences for people of all ages.
While my career began in audiovisual production, I've always been drawn to the energy of live performance. I studied Digital Animation Technology at IDAC (Avellaneda Film Institute, Buenos Aires), and over the years I've expanded my practice through lighting design, scenography, and live video performance. Exploring these different fields has shaped the way I work, giving me a broader perspective on how visuals, light, and space can come together to support a performance and create memorable experiences.
What project are you most proud of and why?
Teaching is just as important to me as creating. Alongside my own artistic practice, one of the projects I'm most proud of is developing workshops and educational resources for people interested in live performance, immersive media, and audiovisual arts.
How does light inspire you?
I love working with other artists and educators to create learning experiences where people can explore new technologies, experiment, and exchange ideas. Seeing students gain confidence and discover new creative possibilities is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. That collaborative spirit is something I carry into every project. I enjoy working with people from different backgrounds, combining a variety of techniques and creative approaches, and learning from every new collaboration. For me, the most exciting projects are those where ideas can move freely between disciplines.
